A Central Florida home with ties to the area’s most famous Gothic tower, is now for sale in Lake Wales. Located at 2300 N Scenic Hwy No. 70 , in the Mountain Lake community, the Mediterranean Revival adobe was completed in 1925 and designed by famed architect Charles R. Wait, known mostly for his nearby “El Retiro,” aka the Pinewood Estate.
For the landscaping, Wait commissioned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.’s firm, which designed the original layout for the community, and just a few years earlier completed the famous Bok Tower Gardens.
At the time, Olmsted was already pretty popular, as he’d designed Yosemite National Park’s famed Olmsted Point with his his father, who famously worked on New York City’s Central Park. Olmsted would later go on to work on President Theodore Roosevelt’s L’Enfant plan, the Jefferson Memorial, and the White House grounds, among other things.
The 6,230-square-foot home comes with a total of nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms, as well as two guests suites, a pool, and a pretty remarkable view of the historic Mountain Lake Colony House and Bok Tower.
The current asking price is $3.5 million and the listing agent is Rhonda Heath of the Mountain Lake Corporation.
