If the rumours currently circling Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson are true, then the long-time couple are set to reach a new milestone in their relationship. And while many believed their next step to involve a proposal , it seems investment in property over precious stones is where the pair’s relationship priorities lie.
As first reported by the New York Post , Martin and Johnson have purchased a US$12.5 million Malibu residence for their first home together. Appearing as if it were plucked from a seaside village and transferred to the edge of the Pacific, the pair’s new Cape Cod-style home sits on 5,338 square feet of land located just steps away from the beach and doors down from a number of Martin’s other Malibu-located properties.
Featuring six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, in addition to a detached two-storey guest house offering a game room, a pool with a spa and outdoor barbecue area, the extensive estate is primed for visits from Martin’s children, Apple and Moses. Or perhaps even his ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, who has expressed her love and adoration for Johnson in the past and who has spent much time holidaying with her and Martin in the past.
Touring the rest of the property, you’ll also find a number of indoor and outdoor fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, and shiplap cladded walls, an atrium-like sitting room, a theatre, and a country-style kitchen complete with a sizeable, marble-topped island, all washed in a crisp white shade lending to a fresh feel not unlike the village the residence borrows it style from. The home also offers a main suite with attached balcony, perching Martin and Johnson over their sprawling land, which too offers a sizeable swimming pool and spa, a communal fire pit, and perhaps in future, a tennis court on the large back lawn, which the property has already received a permit for.
But you needn’t necessarily venture outdoors to take in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds them. You’ll spot a number of large bay windows that frame views of the ocean—the peaceful vista visible from a number of spots in the home—and also invite an expanse of light into the space.
According to the publication, Johnson is said to be holding onto her Pierce & Ward-designed Los Angeles home purchased in 2016. It should come as no shock that the actor isn’t selling the property, telling Architectural Digest in 2020 when famously inviting it to tour her home that she was “immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy,” adding “I thought, I’ll never want to sell this place.”
