Castle in Hamilton, Canada, Lists for C$8.88 Million

An imposing castle in the Canadian city of Hamilton, Ontario, has come up for sale with an C$8.88 million (US$6.99 million) price tag, and all of the furniture and a classic car are part of the deal.

The grandiose property is within one of the most wealthy pockets in Hamilton, according to listing broker Robert Cekan of Ambitious Realty Advisors, who brought the home to the market last week.

Built in 1881 by local architect James Balfour—a name that “carries a lot of weight, especially locally,” Mr. Cekan said—the castle stands out on a street that’s mostly home to more traditional family properties.

With a tower, battlements, a Scottish-stone exterior and turrets, the home was never set “to be under siege,” Mr. Cekan said, but was built using those elements as “a sign of wealth.” Urbanicity The 12-bedroom home spans more than 12,700 square feet over three floors, and has eight fireplaces, a statement staircase, a contemporary kitchen, a wine cellar and a billiards room.

Loaded with original features from the 1800s including intricately carved wood, doors, ceiling medallions, plaster and moldings, the home and its character has been well preserved.

There’s “just a remarkable amount of work that went into this that’s been maintained over the generations,” according to Mr. Cekan. “It’s extremely rare for something of this age.”

Walk through the front door and “there’s definitely a level of grandeur that immediately takes over,” he added.

The buyer of the property will also get all of the home’s furniture and a 1928 Ford Model A. Though there’s no particular connection between the car and the house, it “just fits with the home,” Mr. Cekan said. “It looks like it belongs.”

Mansion Global couldn’t determine who owns the castle, or how much they paid for it.
