Child Prodigy Michelle Wie West Scores With All-New L.A. Mansion

You could say golf pro and LPGA Tour veteran Michelle Wie West has made a real estate hole in one of sorts, buying a glam mansion in one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The Hawaii native and her husband Jonnie West — a son of NBA legend of Jerry West and the Director of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors — paid $5.7 million for the all-new house, which was built on speculation by a local developer and completed this year. Sited on more than a third of an acre, the property lies on a leafy and little-traveled dead-end street in prime Encino.

A child prodigy and Stanford grad, Wie West rose to international prominence at age 10, when she became the youngest-ever player to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Public Links amateur championships. She turned professional before her 16th birthday, qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open at 13 and won the tournament in 2014. For a time, she was bettering many experienced golfers, both male and female, on world-class links.

Now 32, Wie West has faced more than her fair share of career ups and downs, including long spells of being sidelined by lingering wrist injuries compounded by arthritis. She contemplated retirement before age 30, but changed her mind after vulgar comments made by Rudy Giuliani about her surfaced earlier this year.

Despite various controversies and injuries, there’s no question that Wie West has been one of golf’s most bankable players. The 6’0″ champ has taken home $6.8 million in tournament prize money alone, plus millions more through lucrative contracts with Sony and Nike.

Back in Encino, the new Wie West house is brand-new and was never on the market, so photos and details are all but nonexistent. But the structure is large, probably at least 8,000 square feet, and was designed in the trendy modern farmhouse architectural style. For visual oomph, the home’s exterior is painted a two-tone cream over charcoal. Also on the premises are a front-facing three car garage and a circular motorcourt, while permits reveal the estate also features a backyard swimming pool with inset spa.

Wie and West married in 2019 in Beverly Hills. In addition to their new Encino digs, they previously owned a contemporary San Francisco home that was acquired in 2019 for $3 million and sold off in September for $3.5 million. Prior to her marriage, Wie also owned a mansion in Florida’s affluent Jupiter community; she bought that estate in 2011, paying $3.9 million, and unloaded it in 2019 for $4.8 million.
