Australia’s sixth most expensive mansion sells for $62million to a Chinese buyer

Australia’s sixth most expensive home in one of Sydney ‘s ritziest suburbs featuring a swimming pool on the roof has sold for $62 million.

The home, known as ‘Ganeden’, sits on a 2,400sqm block of land that once hosted three houses in Vaucluse, in the city’s eastern suburbs.

Along with stunning harbour views, the mansion boasts three kitchens, a 20-car garage, seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. Two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, are also notable features of the home as is its cinema, gymnasium, two internal lifts and a separate function centre.

Ganeden’s former owners, prominent lawyer John Landerer and his wife Michelle, put the property on the market in June, 2019.

Mr Landerer bought the first of three homes in 1988 before purchasing the two other houses in the mid 90s.

The exact price is not known but sources say it was above the $60million asking price and believed to be from a Chinese buyer who’d kept an eye on the property for more than a year, Domain reported.

Ganeden is also famously next door to James Packer’s La Mer which sold for $70million in 2015 – Australia’s fourth most expensive house.

Mr Landered had been offered $62million for the home back in 2016 before it was ever put on the market but the deal didn’t go through.

A $100million Point Piper estate currently holds the title of the country’s most expensive home.

Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes became the proud new owner in 2018.
