Alluring Danish Farmhouse-Inspired Estate Sells for $10.7 Million

Laura Ziffren Wasserman, the wife of prominent Los Angeles media heir and businessman Casey Wasserman, has picked up a unique Danish farmhouse-inspired mansion designed by noted architect Peter Choate . Originally listed for nearly $12 million back in early 2020 and later reduced to just under $11 million before serving as a $35,000-per-month rental, the Brentwood property ultimately sold for $10.7 million.

Custom-built for telecom executive John T. Thompson and his wife Anelisa in the late 1980s — and inspired by Danish farmhouses the couple fell in love with after a trip to Denmark — the two-story whitewashed brick and copper-roof structure rests on a 0.6-acre hillside parcel overlooking picturesque views of the Downtown L.A. skyline and Getty Center.

A winding driveway passes through an arched tunnel underneath the house before emptying out at an expansive brick-paved motorcourt flanked by an attached three-car garage. Once inside, five bedrooms and an equal number of baths are sprawled across almost 8,000 square feet of mostly white living space, which is adorned throughout with rich hardwood floors, detailed crown molding, and a wealth of windows and skylights providing abundant natural light.

Highlights include an entry foyer lined with built-in-bookshelves, which opens into a fireside living room that connects to a formal dining room. There’s also a gourmet kitchen outfitted with a duo of butcher block-topped islands, high-end stainless appliances and a butler’s pantry, and a striking wood-paneled library resting beneath a coffered wood ceiling and displaying French doors leading out to a poolside terrace.

A main-level master retreat features a white brick fireplace, sitting area, dual showroom-style closets and a separate mirrored gym, plus a luxe tiled bath anchored by a wet room hosting a shower and soaking tub. Four additional bedrooms can be found upstairs, along with a large recreation/office space boasting an oversized fireplace and architectural exposed beams; and outdoors, the grounds hold a pool, greenhouse, and plenty of spots ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining.
