Roberto A. De Guardiola Jr. , the head of West Palm Beach-based investment banking firm De Guardiola Advisors, and his wife, Joanne M. De Guardiola , an interior designer, sold their Palm Beach mansion for $15.25 million.
The 6,357-square-foot home at 12 Lagomar Road was purchased by Dahlia Associates LLC, managed by Danielle E. DeBenedictis and Peter Gustof Karlson . Northern Trust provided a $5 million mortgage to the buyer.
Built in 1928, the home features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, a full-sized clay tennis court, a pool, an elevator, a fireplace, and a terrace overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. It was designed by architect Addison Mizner.
The price equated to $2,399 per square foot. However, the fairly large size of the property, a landlocked lot of 0.82 acres, also factored into the price.
It last sold for $3 million in 2005, so its value increased more than five times over. It was the sellers’ homestead property. The home was listed by Jim McCann of Premier Estate Properties.
As for the new owners, DeBenedictis is a well-known attorney from the Boston area. According to a Palm Beach Post profile, she met her husband Karlson during her unsuccessful campaign for Congress as he worked for her campaign. Specializing in complex business litigation and representing high-net-worth individuals, she leads the Boston firm of DeBenedictis, Miller & Blum.
The couple also owns a home and the Summer House Inn in Nantucket in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They currently have a homestead residence at 408 Chilean Ave., Palm Beach, which totals 4,200 square feet.
