Two Binghamton Mansions Offer Themed Tours For Halloween

News Two of Binghamton’s most recognizable mansions are getting into the spirit of Halloween. Both Phelps Mansion Museum and the Roberson Museum and Science Center are offering specially-themed tours for the month of October.

At Roberson, guests can walk the halls of the mansion while hearing about ghostly encounters and unexplainable incidents that have happened in the Gilded Age home. The guided tours are offered on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month of October. The museum will take walk-ins but recommends making reservations online since there are only 15 spots available per tour.

Downtown, the Phelps Mansion Museum is offering a Death Comes to the Phelps tour on Fridays and Saturdays from October 8th to the 30th. The Phelps Mansion Museum House Manager Joe Schuerch says the tours will differ slightly between Friday and Saturday nights. Friday tours will focus on mourning practices and superstitions of the late 19th century, while the Saturday tours will explore the fate of the Phelps family.

“They were only here for a short time because they all died quite quickly one after another, so we’re taking a closer look at that. A little more in depth than we would normally do on a regular tour,” says Schuerch.

Schuerch says the tours at the Phelps Mansion will be limited to 10 guests. Tickets are required and can be purchased on the museum’s website.
