Shaquille O’Neal’s Isleworth mansion finally sells for $11 million

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has put his huge Isleworth mansion up for sale. After more than three years on the market, Shaquille O’Neal’s Isleworth mansion has finally sold for $11 million, one of the highest prices ever paid for a home in Central Florida. The lakefront house is for sale for $16.5 million and includes 12 bedrooms, 11.5 bathrooms and its own movie theater, cigar bar and an indoor regulation basketball court. The basketball legend, who bought the estate for $3.95 million in 1993, didn’t get anywhere near what he initially hoped for, however.

The house at 9927 Giffin Court near Windermere was put on the market in 2018, priced at $28 million. Over the years, that was slashed repeatedly. Most recently, it was listed for $16.5 million.

The identity of the buyers has not been disclosed, but a news release Friday from Stockworth Realty, which represented them, refers to a “local family.”

Benjamin Hillman, the Sotheby’s International Realty agent who represented O’Neal in the sale, called them “a humble family but wealthy.”

Located inside the gated Isleworth Golf and Country Club community, the 12-bedroom, 31,000-square foot house sits on 3.9 acres on the southeastern shore of Lake Butler.

O’Neal purchased the home when, at 21, he was picked up by the Orlando Magic as the NBA’s No. 1 overall draft pick. He also was the NBA Rookie of the Year that season. During his time in Orlando, the superstar customized the property with a number of references to Superman, one of his nicknames on the court, including Superman logos throughout the house and a statue of the hero on the end of his dock. Since being on the market, the house was briefly under contract in February, though that deal fell through for undisclosed reasons.

He removed signature traces of the basketball player, such as the Superman statue on the dock and the custom-made 17-foot round bed. Hillman said in April that staging costs for the sale ran over $400,000.

The house was originally constructed by Razia and Nur Ullah Khan, gift shop owners who immigrated from England, who bought the land for $300,000 in 1986.
