Victoria Mansion reopens to public in Portland

The Victoria Mansion in Portland was forced to shut its doors to visitors for over a year, but now it’s re-opening with some new changes. (WGME) PORTLAND (WGME) – The Victoria Mansion in Portland was forced to shut its doors to visitors for over a year, but now it’s reopening with some new changes.

Acting Director Tim Brosnihan says this includes expanding the areas of the rooms where people can visit, allowing guests to spread out.

Right now, the house is operating at reduced capacity, and for the first time, people can buy tickets in advance.

Brosnihan says some days they are sold out before the museum even opens for the day.

“Last year, we did a lot of restoration work on the inside of the building which is important, but the other piece of that is that you need the people to come and see that and learn from it,” Brosnihan said. “So, for me, reopening is all about getting people back into this house, which is really at the heart of what we do.”

He says the mansion, which was built just before the Civil War, has been a museum and historic place since 1941.
