He may never have actually lived there, and he certainly realized a significantly smaller windfall than originally hoped, but it seems legendary musician John Fogerty, now in his mid 70s, may have realized a small profit on the $7.975 million sale of a freshly rehabbed and bespokely appointed mansion in a coveted pocket of L.A.’s newly fashionable and, hence, increasingly expensive Encino community. That is, the prolific songwriter and Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman turned a profit if the improvement expenses, carrying costs and real estate fees don’t tally up to more than the $6.75 million he paid Hollywood producer Michael Sugar for the property in late 2018.
Initially listed at almost $10 million, nipped down an itty-bitty, easy-to-miss cul-de-sac and secured behind double driveway gates on almost two thirds of an acre of landscaped grounds, the roughly 9,000-square-foot two-story home was built in 2016, so it was relatively new, if a bit dowdy, when purchased by the “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising” singer. Still, almost new as it was, Fogerty quickly and no-doubt expensively overhauled the entire property, adding eye-catching décor, trendy top-end finishes and all sorts of ultra-modern light fixtures. Measuring in at about 9,000 square feet with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, the residence features numerous stone accent walls, motorized expanses of glass doors that vanish into the walls and a comprehensive home automation system.
The property was listed with Josh Altman and Matt Altman of The Altman Brothers at Douglass Elliman , while the buyers were handled by Jacob Greene , also with The Altman Brothers at Douglas Elliman.
