Gale Mansion, the historic Minneapolis wedding venue, on the market for $2.5M

Gale Mansion, a historic wedding and event venue in South Minneapolis, is on the market for $2.5 million.

In addition to the 24,245-square-foot property, the price includes everything required to keep commercial operations going at the site, such as dishes, glasses, tables, chairs, outdoor tents and kitchen equipment.

The property, located at 2115 Stevens Ave., was built in 1911 and only has had two owners.

The current owner, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), said through listing agent Beth Andrews it was and still is a difficult decision to sell the property.

AAUW, which is focused on serving women and girls, has owned the property for 75 years and didn’t set out back then to operate a wedding venue, Andrews said, adding that the organization is regrouping coming out of the pandemic and it was time to put its efforts elsewhere.

However, the AAUW is only interested in selling the site to a vendor that is committed to keeping weddings and events going at the venue.

The home was built by Edward Gale and Sarah Pillsbury , daughter of Minnesota Gov. John Pillsbury, and mimics the architecture they saw while traveling throughout Europe, according to the venue’s website .

When it was built, the home was packed with modern luxuries including a central vacuum system, an intercom and the placement of the kitchen on the main floor.

More recently, the home played host to an episode of The Bachelorette when Minnesota native Michelle Young was on the show.

Modern modifications include an auditorium, stage, sound system, commercial kitchen and elevator.

The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
