Banker-bashing singer Billy Bragg makes £2.5million selling mansion to a banker 1 BANKER-bashing singer-songwriter Billy Bragg made a £2.5million profit after he sold his mansion — to a Goldman Sachs executive.

The leftie singer, 63, bought the 25-room Victorian villa with his partner for £630,000 in 1999. 3 Banker-bashing singer Billy Bragg makes £2.5million selling mansion to a banker 2 But Land Registry documents seen by The Sun on Sunday show the couple sold the house for £3.15million to Richard Spencer and his partner, Nicole Kiely, in March.

Spencer is a managing director in real estate investments for Goldman Sachs. He has climbed the ranks at the bank after joining more than a decade ago from Wall Street investment bank Morgan Stanley.

The mansion, near Bridport, Dorset, has five bedrooms, a boot room, coat room, cloakroom, study, drawing room, dining room, sun room, library, two porches, an indoor swimming pool and a balcony offering stunning sea views.

Bragg said in 2019: “Me and my missus have worked hard over the years and the result of that is we have a really nice house. It’s all our own — neither of us inherited any money.”

But he has made no secret over the years of his distaste for bankers and once recorded a version of Woody Guthrie song The Jolly Banker. Its lyrics include: “When money you’re needing and mouths you are feeding I’m a jolly banker, jolly banker am I.”

In 2010 Bragg wrote to the then-Chancellor Alistair Darling saying he would refuse to pay income tax unless he capped bonuses for bankers at the Royal Bank of Scotland to £25,000.
